Marine Tavern (Gay pub)

Name of the pub: Marine Tavern (Gay pub)
Introduction: The Marine Tavern is a small and cozy traditional pub in the heart of Brighton's Gay Community where everybody knows your name. Cheers!!
The management and staff are friendly and so are the customers.
The 'MT' is very intimate where people get to know one another and become friends.
You can have a quiet pint, play a quiz on a Tuesday or enjoy a party atmosphere.
Address:
The Marine Tavern   13 Broad Street  Brighton  East Sussex  BN2 1TJ

Interview in the pub
Interviewee A: Hugh
Occupation: accountant
About the pub: He enjoys the social atmosphere here. Free to talk to people without problems. But the business is declining; it’s really very expensive for landlords to run the pubs. His grandmother owned 8 pubs all over England. All shut down now.
About China: He went to China in 1960s’. He was arrested and sent to prison by Chairman Mao, because his typist typed “RC” instead of “PRC”. He was asked to apologize in front of more than 500 Chinese people and students. He remembers this experience forever.
(Refuse to take photos)
Interviewee B: John
Occupation: Journalist/ Freelancer
About the pub: A good place to have a beer, meet people, and relax together or for a blind date. Even for business meeting.
About China: He went to Beijing twice and lived in Hong Kong for a couple of years. He knows little Mandarin and Cantonese like “Ganbei” and “Gongxifacai”. He mentioned cooperation between China and UK in nuclear energy. As is said in an opinion poll last year, more than 65% British people approve of it.
(Quite friendly and willing to take photos as well as giving advice on how to finish the project from a professional perspective)
Interviewee C&D: Steve and Nathan
Occupation: Bar manager and owner
About the pub: Bought the pub 12 years ago. Tavern is another name for pub. Four objectives: 1. protect the children (people under 18 are not allowed to enter this pub) 2. protect the customers 3. protect the neighbors from noise and disturbance 4. prevent crime disorder (Anyone who misbehaves in the pub faces the risk of getting a yellow ticket, he will be banned from all pubs for 6-18 months with two yellow ones.)
Something special: strongly recommended a kind of bitter called “Flanders Fields”, which is named by Steve in memory of good people who died in WW1. Both admitted to be peace lovers.
(Very happy to meet us again. Also an unforgettable experience for them.)
One for the road, maybe, Cheers!
